Major Basil Jarrett has worked in media and communications for over 25 years and is most known for being the face of the Jamaica Defence Force as its Head of Civil-Military Cooperation and Public Affairs, and Chief Spokesman on major Force and national security matters. Major Jarrett has crafted the JDF’s crisis communications strategy and managed numerous national security incidents, emergencies and crises. Accidents, violence, sexual misconduct, financial investigations, personnel misconduct, civil protests, health pandemics… Major Jarrett’s career ran the gamut of all types of crises as he navigated the JDF through the national security minefield while retaining its position as Jamaica’s most admired public institution. Major Jarrett has the unenviable record of managing emergency communications around no less than seven airplane accidents, ranging from large commercial airlines to smaller, military-grade aircraft.

 

Major Jarrett retired from the JDF in 2020 to form Artemis Consulting, having recognized the need for companies and organizations to strengthen their crisis communications response mechanisms. Companies value this military approach to crisis communications, especially since it emphasizes crisis prediction and prevention as the most critical part of a comprehensive crisis communications plan.

 

Prior to joining the JDF, Major Jarrett worked in advertising, public relations, digital design, journalism, media and production, and taught communications at several Universities worldwide.
